Can anyone give me any positive feed back about experiences with getting several teeth pulled at once. My anxiety is working overtime with fears of dry socket and infection. I’m afraid . Anyone been through this?

I have had several teeth pulled at once, you will be ok. Do not smoke if you have packing in. if you drink thru a straw be careful small sips. you will feel ok in a day or so. your doctor will most likely put you on antibiotics so no need to worry about infection.

Thank you.i should have clarified that I had it done Tuesday. That’s what I’m afraid of is I’m a smoker. I have stitches so that helps. But with my anxiety I just know that dry socket will happen and kill me and he didn’t give me any antibiotics. It’s been five days now so I keep telling my self I’ll be fine.

Hi I empathise as I hate the dentists. First a dry socket won't kill you as this isn't an infection but caused by a blood clot not forming after the removal of a tooth. The pain is due to exposed nerves. I have had this once over Xmas and it is awful. This would happen within a day or two and won't happen now so relax. x

You wont get a dry socket if you have passed 24 hours, also a dry socket is not fatal, it's just a clot hasn't formed (it's the clot that stops the nerves causing you pain) I have had to have 4 teeth removed at the same time with only a little bit of pain afterwards, yet I have had one removed another time and it hurt like hell afterwards! Often nowadays Dentists give you an antibiotic injection prior to or after a removal that stops any infection before it can start, although people ie Drs and Dentists tell you not to smoke or to stop smoking in reality most of the time unless you are having a General anaesthetic it makes no difference, if you are having a General anaesthetic it can cause the anaethatist a headache if you are a smoker.

Yes I second the person that said no dry sockets if it didn’t happen in the first day or so. Second, even if it did, you just go see them or another doctor and they put something in it that stinks really bad but provides literally instant relief. You would be just fine! They won’t cause any real harm. :-)

Hello Fedupgirl. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and on that very same day I drank out of a straw. I completely forgot about dry sockets! But I was fine. As for infection, I was immediately given amoxicillin and took 3 doses for a week to ensure infection wouldn’t happen. If your dentist or surgeon doesn’t do that for you, I’m sure you can ask if they can prescribe antibiotics.

I will be honest, recovery does take a while. I was swollen for a week and the pain took a month to subside. I still have pain here and again and it’s 2 months post op. When I have follow ups with my oral surgeon, I’ll tell him I sometimes still have pain and he says it’s all normal and as long as it’s decrease in intensity and frequency then I’m fine. It’s a very standard procedure and I’m sure you will be just fine.

You’ve got this.
