Anxiety and Food Sensitivity

Hi

I wanted to know is there a connection to us with anxiety or panic disorder and us being sensitive to sugary foods or salty foods ? Like I have something with the slightest salt or maybe it is kind of salty but it’ll make me really anxious, same with sugary foods. I normally cut back on both , and I continue to, but sometimes you aren’t sure which restaurant goes overboard with the sugar or salt until you have some , ya know ? I had this salty/spicy chili or maybe it was too spicy ( add that to any anxious person’s sensitivity list)

Either way, I wanted some input on this topic. What do you guys think? What are your experiences eating these kinds of foods? Did you have to eliminate any from your diet?

I think you might have a point on days when I have too much sugar my anxiety is much higher now that you mentioned it probably when I have too much salt also. I do feel calmer when I am

eliminating sugar and high levels of salt. I am going to keep a food diary and see if I can get more evidence to support my theory.

I may do the same! Like I had veggie wrap yesterday and it was sooooo good and refreshing. It was a raw veggie wrap with hummus and avocado. I was in a great mood. I got hungry after that, tried some loaded nachos but it was super spicy and a bit salty and I hated it and got irritable smh. But that’s a great idea, do that! Yes, i have been observing this so wanted to know what everyone else’s experiences are with certain foods

Hi hippie, I definitely see an adverse reaction to over indulging in sugar. The next day

I get not only more anxious but the "sugar blues" as well. I know this to be true because

if I have a piece of chocolate the next day, it will stabilize me and bring me back to calm

as it raises my blood sugar levels.

As for salty foods, I avoid it like the plague knowing that it will raise my blood pressure,

breaking through my b/p med. I do not see salt increasing my anxiety as sugar does. xx

Oh ok . Thanks for your input on this. Yes I find it interesting how certain foods affect our anxiety disorder. Wow ....yeah that’s why I avoid sugary foods too, also I want to be healthy . I haven’t had any cupcakes or cakes, or even pastries in months and it has made a difference, in also my skin.

Good for you hippie in avoiding sugary foods. I wanted to add
