Hi

Im just needing to vent. I started struggling with anxiety June/July last yr as a result of overstress from my job. I worked in health for 3.5yrs and had to give it up because of my anxiety. The thing is I have started a new medical reception job in Jan and been loving it. I also had Health anxiety fears which heart attack and cancer were my issues, I started meds a week b4 I started my job but today has been a stressful day where somebody came to our clinic with chest pain, i rushed him to our nurse and he needed an ambulance and his family were also contacted.. I have been proud that I have faced my fears with this job but feeling anxiety is waiting to attack as a result of the gentlemans situation. I hope I havent made the wrong choice with my career?? I also worked a 10hr shift which i only usually do 5hrs 2/3 days a week so def feeling exhausted, def can be a stressful job but liked the challenge but now i'm not so sure?? I would like to know what anyone thinks of my situation and what would you do???

Hello. I also started struggling with anxiety and panic attacks as a result of overstressing both my body and mind, and I actually already had enough outside stressors since I was a child to begin with (loss of parent, illness of my father, mother, grandmother, some family problems etc). So I understand what stress can do to you.

That being said, I think you did a good thing today. You helped someone in need. You didn’t mention what was the reason of his chest pain, but I assume it was serious when family had to be contacted and he needed ambulance. So you helped someone! You should be proud of that. On the other side, if situations like this are triggers for you, I don’t know if it is a good idea to work in such a place. But that is the decision only you can make, because we are all different. Maybe you have already had similar situations but you were more relaxed or had more energy and therefore you could go through it rationally? (I assumed this because you said that you usually work 5 hours and today you worked for 10 hours) maybe exhaustion led to feeling more anxious?

Do you maybe have a good psychologist you are seeing for anxiety or whom you have been seeing some time? Can you contact them and ask for advice? They probably know your triggers and what is in the centre of your anxiety issues and I’m sure they could help.

We are all here to talk to you and for support but only you know everything you’ve been going through and the pattern of your panic attacks/anxiety! I wish you all the luck.❤️
