apo4 gene.

About a month ago I took adna test with 23&me. Today I got the results back, & it turns out that I have one copy of the apo4 gene. Carrying this gene triples the risk of alzheimers, & getting this news has totally freaked me out! I hate my parents for doing this to me! This is the worst news ever. I really don`t know what to do now.

My parents are long dead. they died before they became old enough to get dementia. But of course it`s their fault, I mean, who else gave me those genes?

Call your doctor and either talk to him, or ask him for the name of a genetic counselor, and make an appt. to see the genetic counselor. These tests are very difficult to interpret yourself.

Hello! I read this and felt the need to tell you before kicked your parents to the curb. This happens all the time. The FDA has even tried to put a ban on 23 and me and such companies from doing such testing. Because they usually come out incorrect. So now to ease your mind you need to contact an actual doctor and have the test done. But I ask you...Do your parents, grandparents, or great grandparents have Alzheimer’s or Dementia? If the answer is no then your in the clear. If so then go online and search ways to avoid it. Search the Mind Diet, exercise, ALZ prevention vitamins. I say this because my husbands grandma and step-father both have ALZ. We help to take care of them. Best wishes Friend! You will be fine!! 🙏✌️

I really couldn`t tell whether I have a family history of AD because most of my known relatives died from heart attacks & strokes before they became old enough to risk AD. Iv`e made an appointment with my doctor to discuss genetic counselling and to arrange a bone scan because this gene also predisposes to osteoporosis as well.

Well there isn't much you can do about it. Maybe by the time you reach the age of onset there'll be a cure. Not much anyone can say, it's also a reason why I don't do thing like DNA testing, you can open a can of worms you'll wish you hadn't plus that information isnt only yours anymore.
