Lately my anxiety has been scary. I woke up early this morning around 3am from a bad dream. Thought I was going to die , I didn’t feel real like I didn’t feel alive. I was out of breath. Now I’m questioning if this is even happening? I’m so scared ! Am I going crazy? Has anymore ever felt this way?

Scared
Savannah_claire_ I had felt like that many times as well as most of us on the forum. You are not going crazy and I do know how frightening it is. Sometimes a little background on what prompts things to happen can help and reduce some of the awful thoughts we get.
Around 3-4am each day, our cortisol levels start to rise. Preparing us for the "fight or flight" response of the day. The cavemen needed it at one time in order to survive. We however are safely tucked in bed. Our body is safe but is reacting to the signals sent out by our brain. A rush of adrenaline produces all the terrifying symptoms. Learning and reading about "Hope & Help for Your Nerve" by Dr. Claire Weekes can help you get a handle on accepting that these feelings are not dangerous. Learning to float past these extreme Mind/Body symptoms is the way to allow them to diminish. It is not an overnight solution. You must practice and really believe what you read in Dr. Weekes' books that will give you the peace and calm to no longer be afraid.
The mind is powerful, it can make us believe lies as it sends up red flags of distress to us...
BUT it can also be used for good in allowing our minds to take us to a happier place. A place where no fear exists even for but a few moments can make an immense difference.
