Concentration

It's been 7 whole days now I've had poor eyesight and cannot concentrate on anything! How can this not be something more serious.. just waiting to collapse with a stroke or brain aneurism or something!!! :(

Sandy, the very fact that you are posting on a forum for people with anxiety strongly indicates that deep down you know your eyesight problems are due to anxiety. But for reassurance you must see your doctor as soon as possible to avoid all doubt. I myself have had all kinds ofeyesight problems that are not organic but caused by nervous sensitisation. These include:

Strange zig-zag patterns that cause temporary blind holes known as scintilating scotomata, they move across your field of vision and then disappear exactly 25 minutes after starting.

Everything being slightly out of focus.

Shimmering patterns usually along bright linear things.

To name but a few. But I am certain your eyesight and concentration problems are not caused by a stroke coming or an aneurism as I believe your doctor will confirm. After your Doctor has assured you of this then accept his/her decision - and stop letting Doctor Google cause you endlessconcern.

Anxiety is a creative little devil, it can mimic hundreds of different organic conditions but anxiety does not have the power to kill you or cause you to collapse. Just accept that your poor eyesight is just a temporary glitch caused by too much worry and stress - and learn to accept it without letting the first flash of fear cause second fear. If you can accept it for the time being it will eventually lose its power to cause eyesight problems and other worrying syptoms.

Hi Jeff thanks for the reply. I've seen my doctor and she wouldn't send me for a scan because she said everything looks fine. I've had a eye test too and all was fine. Just worried as sometimes I think anxiety can be an easy way to palm off something possibly more serious just because someone is suffering from it.

I know what you mean, Sandy, when you have lots of psychsomatic 'illnesses' you have to remember that one day some organic illness may come along which is why it's always important to check any new symptoms out with a doctor. As the old saying goes: "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you aren't being followed☺

So I should go back or trust them?

Sandy, as you've seen your doctor and had an eye test and they told you everything was fine I say trust them.

I'll do that Jeff. I'll pretend you are the great Jeff Stelling. He wouldn't lie to me and he knows everything! :) I just feel like sometimes is this the start of me losing my mind or going mental! :/

Most people on this forum have felt like that butthey never do lose their mind and you are no different, anxiety is self limiting. I keep plugging the self help books of Doctor Claire Weekes on this forum, I don't have shares in it, wish I did. You may already have come across it or heard about it, but it's the most successful method of overcoming nervous sensitisation because it explains precisely why we get these strange feelings and how through what she calls Acceptance and Floating we can break the vicious circle of worry causing nervous symptoms which cause more worry which causes more symptoms and so on. Weekes suffered from anxiety symptoms herself when she was a young woman and cured herself so sheknows her stuff.

Of course, it takes time to read a book and practice what it says and we all want an instant wand waving fix which unfortunately doesn't exist. But in her first book you will soon recognise yourself and the symptoms personal to you, it brings immediate reassurance and then explains in simple terms the open road to recovery. In the UK it's callef 'Self help with your nerves' and in the US 'Hope and help with your nerves' and still available from Amazon, used copies can be had for just a few pounds/dollars inc. postage. I strongly commend it but will say no more.

Thankyou Jeff. I've seen some of her stuff on YouTube but can only find snippets of it. I've just discovered what my Christmas present is going to be. All the best x
