HI rushaine,

Do you know if you suffer from anxiety? Your symptoms sound like that may be the case. I started having panic attacks about eight months ago, both waking and nocturnal ( while sleeping). It was the worst experience of my life ever! I eventually had to seek help from a mental health care facility, and i was able to get on the proper medication and start my road back to recovery. I'm taking Zoloft for depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and PTSD. I'm also taking Lorazepam ( a central nervous system suppressant) to help with the physical symptoms of anxiety. It took a few months to get used to the antidepressants, but I saw immediate relief of my anxiety symptoms with the Lorazepam.

Your symptoms sound like textbook anxiety to me and they are as follows:

- Shortness of breath

- Heart palpitations (rapid or irregular heartbeat)

- Trembling or shaking

- Sweating

- Choking

- Nausea or abdominal distress

- Numbness

- Dizziness or unsteadiness

- Feeling of detachment or being out of touch with yourself

- Hot flashes or chills

- Fear of dying

- Fear of going crazy or out of control

I got this list from a book (The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook by Edmund J. Bourne P.h.D) I bought since learning that I suffer from generalized anxiety. These sensations by themselves are not life threatening, they are cause by an overproduction of adrenaline by the amygdala in your brain, but they are scary as hell non the less. In the short term try deep breathing (belly breathing), cut out any stimulants such as coffee, smoking, simple carbs (sugar, pasta, white bread), mindful meditation helps, get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water to prevent dehydration. You should also try and get some medical teat to rule out any physical cause of stress. Not that I think you may be suffering from a physical illness, this is something I did for my own peace of mind. Knowing that I was physically o.k. helped me not to worry that something my be wrong with me physically, and that helped me to rule out a serious medical condition, which allowed me to focus on the real issue... Anxiety!

Also try to de-stress your life as much as possible and get some exercise, even if it is just walking a few times a day. you my be going through a stressful time in your life, a recent break up, relationship trouble, job stress, the death of someone close to you, ...etc. when we are under stress for long periods of time our lymbic systems gets worn out breaks down, and we get depressed and anxious. CBT and Talk therapy are very helpful in these areas. I hope this helps and get to feeling better soon.
