I did for a while and now keep in contact with my penpal through FB.

My daughters had penpals all over the world when they were young and one has stayed with one of her penpals several times in the US and they are adults now.

It can be really interesting and you make friends for life. Julie xx

All, I know of a great club called Global Penfriends (globalpenfriends.com). It is a club for penpalling, both by snail mail and by internet. Old fashioned snail mail is so much fun and adds a whole new element to long distance friendships - its more personal and more rewarding than chatting via internet - thats just my opinion.
