Does anypne ever have alcohol when they are on this tablet, we are having a night out soon and I owuld love to have a drink but am too scared

You can get super drunk on these really easily, also these are mind altering and when you get drunk you can say weird things. I'm not saying that will happen all the time, it doesn't but it has happened to me. Try a drink at home first and see how it goes.

I was on Citalopram for a year and it was a rough ride. I drank a lot then too, mainly to slow my mind down but there were a few occasions where my behaviour was odd... but you have to remember thats the meds not you.

I was on it a few years ago and did have nights out and I was ok but what I would say is try a glass of your normal alcoholic drink in the house and see how you feel. If you drink regularly though you may not get the full benefit of your meds as alcohol is a depressant. I'm on mirtazapine and tried drinking on it... I'm ok whilst drinking but then I can't get to sleep that night and then it knocks me out and takes 3 days for me to feel awake again so its not worth it.... Have a practice run at home love eve x

I'm on Citalopram and I have a drink but I've found that if I go on a night out and have quite alot to drink then the next day my anxiety is much worse.

I had this issue a few weeks back before going on a stag do that was obviously going to involve drinking. I had a lot to drink but not overboard. I felt shit anyway because of what was going on in my mind but I felt that before and after the weekend so don't think the drink made it any worse. As per advice below, maybe have a glass or two of wine with a meal and see how that affects you - that's what I did

Hi Gilly. I've been on and off Citalopram for a number of years. I've never noted any obvious problems having a drink but that said I don't really ever drink heavily.

In short I think, as other posters have suggested, just experiment and see what works for you.

I've been on Citalopram long term twice now over the last 5 years. 20mg. Both times I have drunk on them with little effect. I would advise maybe not drinking heavily if you've only just started taking them but once in your system (say three months) then you should be fine. Of course my disclaimer is that I am not a medical professional, but I can tell you that I too was initially worried about drinking on them (and I do like to drink!) but have never had a problem with it!
