So with winter here my depression and anxiety were rearing their ugly heads, So I started doing what I use to do to keep myself focused . I started making lists again of things I need to do things I have been putting off for what seems like forever lol and its been helping a lot. Since I have a nice long list I have started doing at least one or two things a day and then crossing them off the list. While most things are little I feel a sense of accomplishment and it keeps my brain busy so I can kick the depression and anxiety to the curb for awhile. Then when I get those things done out I go with my dog Ireland aka Bug. Since we are both old ladies lol I have kept the walks to eight blocks just getting out feels good even when we have like today a morning high of 9 another accomplishment cause usually with those temps I am hiding under the covers lol. So what are all of you trying to do each day to keep your depression and anxiety at bay?

keeping my anxiety and depression in check
Greetings Amysmom! In my layperson's opinion, sounds like SAD to me, a disturbance that many, many suffer from, that is not a psychiatric disturbance per se, but rather a function of our circadian clocks and and seasonal changes in light. Has your psychiatrist made an official diagnosis and suggested options? Of course, I don't if you are seeing a psychiatrist, but I think it would have to be one with a very strong scientific background, as opposed to say a Marriage and Family Counselor, who wound need to evaluate that.
I think your idea of lists is great! Otherwise it's just chaos and confusion and one wonders: Where to start?? But with a list you can see what you're working with and then you can prioritize: What needs the most attention? What is disturbing me the most? And you can also decide: What on my list do I actually stand a good chance of solving and which not? That kind of tells you where to start and whether you need outside help because a particular problem is too difficult to solve on your own. Hope this helps. Come back here anytime and I will be happy to chat.
What you are doing is what i do too. Ive had depression and anxiety for many years and winter always makes it worse. Right now the tp of my list is cleaning behind my kitchen appliances. Yuck 🤣🤣🤣🤣. My journal gets a real workout too. I try to get out of the house a little more too.
Hi, yep ewwwww cleaning behind the appliances lol makes you wonder how in the world can it get so icky back that lol. I had made lists for yrs then a few yrs back I just stopped not sure why but I am finding it helpful once again. Snowing here right now so waiting for it to stop so I can get outside with my dog and get in my morning walk. Have a great day and don't work to hard behind those appliances lol.
I love this idea! Thanks for sharing! Having a rhythm or routine does seem to help. The days with no plans are the worst and then on the days I have plans I seem to remember all the things I should have done on the free day. Why is that? Making my list!
Glad you liked my idea and yes the days with no plans or motivation are the worst , when I do that I just sit and veg in front of the tv and then feel bad cause I know I should be doing stuff rise and repeat lol. Glad your making a list it feels good to check off the things I have done reminds me I have accomplished something no matter how small it is. Good luck to you with your list let me know how it goes for you. 🙂
