Hello I stated mirtazapine 3 days ago it has reduced my anxiety by 80% I can't believe it but my back has been in agony I can't bare to carry on taking it if its going to carry on. I have been doing the same as I do any other day nothing different. Is this normal how can this be for a tablet to cause back pain has anyone else had this side effect did it go away? I was thinking maybe it might be just because I am new to the medication but it doesn't seem right so I am scared to carry on.
I appreciate any replies

I'm certainly no pharmacist or doctor, so my first suggestion would be to absolutely contact a professional who can help you figure out if you are having an adverse reaction or not.
That said, I've taken Mirtazipine in the past and am somewhat aware of its potential side-effects; what you're describing could certainly be an adverse reaction like arthralgia (non-inflammatory muscle or nerve pain) or muscle dysfunction. The rule of thumb is that you should always take your medication as prescribed, but if you've only taken it for three days, you can probably cease taking it right away without any issue if you are very concerned and unable to contact your doctor. I truly hope that you feel better; having back pain as a trade-off to help with your anxiety must be terribly disheartening. This may or may not be the medication for you, but if one works, it stands to reason another may be an even better fit 💜
I was on Mirtrazapine I never had any symptom like that. What I do know from a few people I have talked to it's not the drug that causes these so called side effects its our mind that causes them. With mental health problems most people when they read what the side effects are they develope some of them
I do not think the medication is causing the back pain. I have been taking it for many months. I do have a back condition with two damaged discs, but the medication has not made a change to the amount of discomfort I get from this.
I'm on 45g and I do find that it seems to effect my personality, in terms of thinking any kind of creative thoughts. I also find myself doing the 1000 yard stare too! The drug also causes brain fog, first thing in the morning, which clears within 30 minutes to an hour.
A part from that I can pass as "normal" though my anxiety still persists, as my body has become more attuned to the drug.
Personally I would stick to 35mg for as long as possible.
I'm not sure if back pain is listed in the side effects on the leaflet enclosed in the box. If it is, it will probably refer you back to your GP for advice.
