Cutting mirtazapine tablet in half

I have seen some online posts that say this shouldn't be done, but not an explanation why. Am trying to wean myself off of it, so initially went from 2 tablets to one and a half (using a pill splitter). Does anybody have some insight on why splitting one would be bad?

Have you spoken to your doctor about weaning yourself off the med ? It is advisable to be under a Doctor’s care when weaning yourself off the med. cutting it in half may be too much to do at 1 time.
