TMS treatment

Hi, I have gone through a lot of treatment and meds over the years for depression and anxiety. It helps for awhile, but now it’s worse.

I have an appointment tomorrow about TMS treatment. I am nervous because I have heard it’s very painful.

Can anyone share an experience they had with this? I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks

TMS is not painful at all. You feel a light like thumping on your head. No pain at all. The treatments are short. I think less than 20 minutes. The hardest part is going 5 days a week for 6 weeks.

Did it help? If so, for how long?

To be honest, I think what helped me was having to leave the house 5 days a week for 6 weeks. I hadn't been leaving the house before that. I did not feel an improvement in my depression or anxiety, but I did get in the habit of going out. I tried to come up with something to keep me going out after it ended. I decided to join a gym. I was able to do that for probably a couple of months I think. Then I just couldn't get myself to go there. Once I stopped that I stopped going out again. I do know that there are people on this site who have had a lot of success with TMS though. I am hoping they will respond to your post. I definitely would still encourage you to give it a try. You never know if it will work for you or not. I truly hope it does. Then you can share your success story here. Don't be afraid to try it. It is worth a try.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. What have I got to lose?

I’m sorry it didn’t work for you, but I totally understand getting stuck at home. I’m going to check into a part time job or volunteering. I know, like you, having to leave the house makes a huge difference!

That is awesome that you are going to check into a part time job or volunteering. My depression is too bad to even think about that. Right now I am just going out once a week with my boyfriend. That is about all I can manage right now. Please post about your progress as you go. Best wishes to you.

I’m so sorry, I certainly understand the feeling!

I went through a full treatment and actually enjoyed it and started looking forward to the sessions. The only side affect I noticed was having my teeth tingle some from the vibration so I would chew gum before and during it. Glad I did it.

I had 3 rounds of TMS. The positive results of the first two each lasted about 6 months and the third is still working after 2 years. I have had some minor setbacks but only due to other health and medical issues. It was not painful, just an annoying tapping on the head during each 20 minute session. Some feel an irritation on their skull after but it quickly goes away. TMS saved my life. Right before my 2nd round I was really spiralling and had I not had treatment then I may not be here today. As with any treatment each person responds differently and results vary.

Thank you so much for letting me know your experience! I am hoping I have similar results!

I hope you do, too!! Keep us posted. It may take a few weeks before you notice any change, some don't notice a change until towards the end of treatment.

It is not painful. I have used TMS at home with great success. I bought a PEMF device so I could do it whenever needed. Good luck!

What is the name of the PEMF device you bought? Can you tell us more about it please? How often do you use it? How has it helped you?

Thank you, I am interested to know how it helped you as well.

I bought a device from Bob Dennis who was involved in early research with NASA on the technology and uses. He has a free to join chat forum that is IMMENSELY informative about all PEMF devices and the technology itself, and he is very quick to respond to questions. I bought the P9 that he is currently developing and testing and LOVE it. I found a placement on my head that works and secure it with a headband for 30 minutes. He has TMS programs preloaded on the devices, so it's really easy to use.

I am very reactive and felt improvement almost immediately, then within a week the depression had mostly lifted and now I use it mainly as a tune-up boost when I have a bad day. I'd look over his site and the group, where they also discuss devices from other manufacturers. fluxhealth.co/

PEMF are much weaker pulses and not necessarily meant to use in place of TMS, especially since treatment needs to be monitored. PEMF is used more for soft tissue injuries.

I beg to differ. There is a lot of well-researched information on the site, as well as MANY people who have been helped by this technology - including me. If you aren't interested, that's okay. Not every treatment is for everyone. Hope you find something that works for you!!

I've already been helped by TMS, last round still working after 2 years. I know not every treatment is for everyone. Glad your treatment worked for you!!

Kinlay thank you so much for this information. The P9 model is sold out. I wonder if it will be back in stock or if it is just not going to be available. I wonder if there is a comparable product. I will definitely check out the forum and see if I can get some answers. I am very happy for you that you found something that works for you.

Hi Kinlay I have been doing some research. First they wanted me to confirm that you have the P9 and not the A9. If you have the P9 what setting are you using please? The P9 may not be available for months. The A9 uses the Omni 8 setting only. The M1 has the same 30 settings as the P9.

Kinlay profile image
Kinlay in reply to gajh

The settings on the P9 (it was a prototype, so he's still tweaking it) I have are the exact same as the M1. I've been using the scTMS 10pps 30 minutes. There is also a 60 minute program of the same. A lot of folks have and LOVE the M1. I don't know much about the A9, but I do know the technology is the same for all of them, so it should (?) be equally effective. Glad you are getting help from the experts there!

gajh profile image
gajh in reply to Kinlay

Thank you so much! I think I would have to go for the M1 or wait for the P9. I will keep looking into it more.

Take your time and chat with folks who use them both online. You'll get honest pros and cons that way. It is an investment, but I feel like it more than paid for itself for me! I also use PEMF for aches, sprains, etc., as do many folks there, but for me the P9's biggest selling point was how much it helped my depression. I will say my husband didn't get nearly as much relief, but his depression is much deeper and exacerbated by a number of medical issues. I wanted to give you full disclosure. Sadly, no one thing works for everyone. :-(

gajh profile image
gajh in reply to Kinlay

How long did your husband use it? Did he use it for 60 minutes? Thank you for telling me that it did not work for him. I appreciate that very much. You are being so very helpful.

Kinlay profile image
Kinlay in reply to gajh

He used it for 30 minutes and then for 60 minutes but only let me put it on him inconsistently over maybe two weeks on weekends only. I feel he did show some improvement, but he didn't want to "bother" with it any more, so we both gave up. I think that if he'd really given it a consistent chance over a few weeks of daily use, he would have had much better results - but then again, not everything works for everyone. The forum they have is a great place to ask about other folks' experiences using it!

Hi another question for you from support Are you using the regular coils and not the internal coil? Do you put the whole device on your head with a headband or do you use the regular coils?

Kinlay profile image
Kinlay in reply to gajh

I am using the internal coils, and yes, I use a stretchy headband to hold the entire device with the internal coils in the correct placement. But many folks use the external coils the same way, placed in two separate locations or stacked bumpy side of coils together.

Overall, TMS was not very painful for me, but there were two sessions that were a bit brutal, but only because I kept asking to increase the setting. They generally start at a low setting and only increase the intensity if you are ok with it. Unfortunately, I don't think TMS really helped me at all, but I think the scientific literature is compelling that many people do benefit. I hope that it helps you!

Thank you. Sorry it didn’t help you. I have had anxiety and depression for so long. It would be so great if if works

It doesnt hurt at all, just like little tapping feeling. My sessions only lasted a little over 3 minutes s not long at all. Older systems can take 20 minutes but the new machines are faster
