the catastrophic thoughts

Battling the idea that the thoughts are just thoughts and the feelings are just fleeting feelings is so hard.

☹️ I know it can be hard to work through. I have those times too.

Our mind is a place where you can experience such beauty, but also much darkness.

Best advice I have is keep moving forward. Give your mind something else to focus on. You may want to talk to a therapist about this as well (if you have not already).

To fight or do battle with the symptoms of anxiety disorder is a natural reaction. But fighting will not help you to recover. That's because fighting causes more stress and strain and releases more of the anxiety hormones. Your body senses your need to do battle and releases more cortisol and adrenaline to give you more energy for fight or flight.

But fighting anxiety does not involve physical energy so the cortisol and adrenaline are not used up, instead they remain in your system adding to the misery of anxiety.

So instead of doing battle with the 'thoughts' accept them instead. You are allowed to have strange thoughts. You will never act on them to the detriment of yourself or any other person so let them come and accept their coming in an act of 'masterly inactivity'.

The same goes for the 'feelings', let them come too and accept them for the time being. Agree to co-exist with them for the moment and because you do not fight them they will surely disperse through neglect.
