Work Anxiety

So I have general anxiety. I've been dealing with it my whole life. I've worked retail for almost 10 years, so I don't have social anxiety, but lately, just the thought of going to work and dealing. with people makes my chest tighten. I don't know why because, for the most part, I love talking to people. I don't even want to message my friends because it makes my anxiety flare up. I've started to snap a rubber band against my wrist to help shock me back to the real world where I have a job they pay me to do. no one knows I feel this way. I don't want to tell them, but I need to get it off the chest and thought writing it out would help.

Hi dear...I had that myself over the years even though I have always worked in a

public contact job. I think sometimes we just get overstressed mentally and physically

drained. I wondered why this was happening and realized that it was about my

breathing. Working with the public puts stress on our over sensitized nervous system.

This in turn can make our breathing go into hyperventilation causing chest pain,

heaviness in chest and even full headedness (which is what I use to get)

Once I slowed my breathing down, lowered my shoulders away from my ears,

and got into a more relaxed stance, I felt better. But it takes practice at home to

prepared you for a day's work. I use Meditation and Breathing exercises before bed

and upon awakening in the morning. This has helped immensely. :) xx

Hi there! I experienced kind of what you're going through. I went to a therapist to help me find ways to deal with this. I worked under someone who stressed me out daily and realized that I was getting burnt out. I love my job and was able to work with someone else. I do also agree that meditation and breathing techniques helped and continue to help me a lot. Another thing is cognitive behavioral therapy. When you are off of work, find things to help you relax and recharge.
