I take Seroquel at night to help with sleep. It's been working well for me.

I also take it at night to fall asleep. It's been a love/hate relationship for me. I always struggled with chronic insomnia and for the first time in my life I've slept on average more than 6 hours of sleep a night. That has been a godsend and I always wondered what it would be like to actually fall asleep every night. It's awesome.

But it scares me because if I don't take it I usually can't sleep at all and I only feel comfortable taking it if I have a 8 hour window of no driving so sometimes my work schedule means I can't take it. I've been taking it almost a year and I definitely have had the dreaded weight gain side effect. I can't say how much the seroquel caused it versus just my depression and poor eating habits but I did gain weight and end up 15 pounds heavier than I've ever been.

I think about going off of it because I worry I'm too dependent on it so at times I try to not take it some nights. Doesn't usually work. I don't know if I can be someone who takes a pill every night to fall asleep... I don't like how I wouldn't be lucid enough in an emergency or how groggy I feel in the mornings but for now it has been getting me sleep and that's fine with me

This is a medication you should take everyday. It is mostly prescribed for people with Major Depressive Disorder..but it can be used off label for sleep.. insomnia but it is not a "sleeping pill". I take Klonopin 2mg in morning and 2 mg at night as prescribed and it really calms my anxiety and panic attacks and help me sleep. Seroquel is also used to treat Schizophrenia, Schiz Affective disorder and severe depression. I took Lunesta once for sleep and it worked great.

My sister takes it for her bipolar disorder. She takes it at night because she has racing thoughts. And it's kind of funny that this post comes up because my sister had called me to tell me that she had trouble going to sleep. Her mind just kept thinking and thinking. Thinking about everything, even stupid things. And she was like confused and didn't know what to do about it. And then she remembered she hadn't taken her nighttime medication. I want she did the racing thoughts stopped. Granted she could still think about them but it wasn't as overwhelming.

She feels that Seroquel has really helped her out immensely.

Hmm 🤔 haven't noticed weight gain on her. She was a little hefty when she started taking it. I'll ask her about it and see what she tells me. 👍🏽❤️

Hi,

I have been on Seroquel for almost two years. I find it to be an excellent medication and it's changed my life for the better. (I'm also on Wellbutrin and Remeron). My only complaint is that I have gained a significant amount of weight and it doesn't seem to be leveling off. When I first started Seroquel I was a size 10. I'm 5'5. I have had to throw all my jeans away because I no longer fit into them or even a size 12 anymore. I'm not sure what to do. I recently moved into a somewhat bad neighborhood so I can't walk like I used to. But even when I walked everyday I was still gaining weight. I don't have a car right now. I'm scared to buy more jeans because I am gaining. My Psychiatrist doesn't seem concerned but I am..but do I want to be overweight or severely depressed? I can't take SSRI's. I like Seroquel because I don't feel like a "zombie". The Wellbutrin and Remeron are great too. I try to stay away from Soda, sweets, ice cream except for the occasional indulge but I try to watch what I eat. I don't overeat. Sometimes I only eat two meals a day. On really hot days I'm good to go on a snack and light dinner. Hope this helps.

Yeah I’m worried about the weight gain myself , because I like my body the way it is now . I hope it doesn’t affect me but I heard all antipsychotics make you gain weight. Ugh 😣

I understand..but not all of them do. Also several antidepressants make you gain weight as well. It seems a very common side effect. I'm on a "cocktail" of medications so I honestly don't know which one if making me gain weight..but it's most likely the Seroquel. I am taking a fairly low does (200 mg or something like that). I'm not sure what dosage you are on

I think my Psychiatrist told me she prescribes it in doses of 600mg range. Have you ever heard of Topamax? It's a really good med but it's also used off label for weight loss. I remember losing so much weight from it that I had to stop it. Have a great day..
