Always have anxiety

I have had GAD for many years but it seems to be getting worse as I age. I am on medication and see a mental heath professional but nothing seems to help. I have very bad anxiety and never feel good. I am afraid to go outside alone because of panic attacks. Does anyone else feel the same?

Hi Coulddobetter and Welcome to our community. I use to be feel the emotional

pain that you are experiencing. Believe me, it has nothing to do with age. I was

in my 20's as many of our virtual friends are. Once GAD grabs on to you, it takes

a lot to break that cycle/that chain to get released. (but it can be done)

Medication and Therapy can help but are still not the "key" to success.

Anxiety has so many tenacles that wrap around us and as we fear each panic attack

those tenacles squeeze harder and don't want to let go. Before long "fear begets fear"

as your last thought of the evening and the first thought of the day becomes overwhelming

fear. Once you reach that point, Agoraphobia sets in (as it did for me). The mind wants to

save us from harm by making us think the outside world is our enemy. What really is our

enemy are the lies that our subconscious mind tell us over and over until we start to

believe each and every word.

There are so many ways to break anxiety's hold on us. Addressing and accepting the

issues surrounding our lives. Finding and using other modalities in order to flood

your subconscious with positive thoughts not only while sleeping but also throughout

each day. Everything you do is helpful such as Meditation, Mindfulness, Self-Hypnosis,

Relaxation Therapy, Affirmational Meditation, Imagery, Biofeedback (where you learn to

control your body's emotions and on and on (my go to is YouTube) On You Tube you will

find an abundance of helpful videos. There is so much to choose from that may help you

BUT...unless there is action behind those remedies, we get no where and stay continually

stuck. I'm happy that you have joined this virtual community of friends where we learn

from each other's journey with mental health issues. Stay Positive & Never Give Up :) xx

You know exactly how I feel. I have had a lot of traumatic events in the last four years that have triggered my anxiety to an extreme level. I will try to watch utube. Thanks for the advise.

Yeah I have very severe anxiety I very rarely leave the house in years. My family encourages me the best they can but I really never leave the house, only once in a blue moon, but it's rare.So I get it. I'm sorry I don't really have advice on that considering I struggle with this still, but I just want you to know I understand. I pray we both overcome our anxiety issues.

You mention you have had a lot of traumatic events in the past so you might benefit from finding a therapist that specializes in treating trauma/c-ptsd. Your anxiety could stem from the repressed emotions from those traumas and is trying to tell you to process them. My trauma therapist used emdr which was very helpful for my processing and healing.

EMDR and somatic processing have both been super helpful for me with accessing my trauma, and even just my anxiety as well.
