Has anyone tried Ketamine Therapy for depression, etc? Does any insurance or Medicare cover the cost? I’m so sick of being sick and every good treatment isn’t covered and way out of my pay grade! I am physically and mentally exhausted and sick because I can’t afford to get well. That sucks beyond words

wondering about Ketamine
Sorry you’re going through these struggles. Hang in here. There may be someone who has the answers you seek.
I think the ketamine spray Spravato is covered by some insurance and even Medicare but not the infusions. I did a series of four ketamine infusions a few years ago and stopped because it wasn't helping me but my primary issue has been social anxiety with depression and some OCD and not deep depression. I was told that it could be beneficial for me so I tried it. All it did for me was amp up my anxiety and it is also very physically taxing and you can't drive afterward and I would be wiped out for the rest of the day afterward. I was also told that one of the benefits from it is being able to have a spiritual experience but I didn't need ketamine in order to be able to do that. In hindsight, I know from experience that smoking pot always made me paranoid and was not calming or relaxing like it is for some people which was a clue that ketamine wasn't going to work for me. It could have been that they gave me too high of a dose and maybe with a much smaller dose it might have been different. It was also very expensive at almost $500. per injection. I had considered TMS at the time but it wasn't available near me at the time but is now and I'm currently doing it with very good results. The reality is that we all react differently to meds and treatments so your experience could be totally different than mine.
Hello WriterG,
I have been on Spravato for 9 months. It has changed the course of my depression. I never thought I would experience days on end without suicidal ideation. It has been a life saver. It is a very powerful substance. If you have been identified (clinically) as having treatment resistant depression, then you will likely be a candidate for spravato. I wish you the BEST!
Don't you have to find a doctor that's trained to watch you take the spray? There's none in my area that I know of . And the cost seems really high. I can't imagine what nine months of it must cost.
I am taking Ketamine tablets every day. I tried 15 IV infusions at $400 per session and was still suffering suicidal ideation. Daily Ketamine is much better. The Company is Joyous. It's only $129 month. They monitor you closely. So be prepared to get texts everyday. I don't mind getting the texts.
