Change in meds not a fun ride 😔

I'm currently switching from Zoloft to Lexapro. Saturday was my last dose of Zoloft and now I am on the Lexapro feeling kind of strange very hot and sweaty. I know it's my body adjusting and going through the ups and downs, I'm also coming off of gabapentin. My doctor is doing major meds changes to try to get me balanced again. I know this is a normal what I'm feeling but my body and my mind are saying what the f***! Thank God I work from home and I can take a break every now and then I'm sitting on the couch and I'm ready to go to sleep! I've got the fans going in the house I'm hot and cold at the same time... Crazy what these meds can do. Stay strong my friends! So thankful I found this group for a place to vent and share! ❤️💪🙏

Hello! I switched to Lexapro from Citalopram about 2 weeks ago. I for SURE felt the hot/sweaty feelings and also a bit lightheaded/sensations in my head. It's pretty much resolved now and I'm feeling much more in control of my anxiety now. There are still some difficult moments but it's been helpful in helping me manage (as well as the DARE app which I now swear by).

When I was prescribed gabapentin for neuro empathic pain I researched the possible side effects and of all those listed my skin crawled for two weeks and my vision dumbed down slightly and due to these limited side effects I continued to take 900mg of gabapentin a day for the next several years and it worked!!! I was told to come off it October 2021 as my diagnosis changed to arthritis of the sacroiliac joint . I weaned myself off over the next 12 weeks (half dose every two weeks)with my last 100mg dose being the 8th January 2022 (this weaning off period is longer than required) I weighed 205llb's.

My mental state deteriorated rapidly over the next few weeks culminating in a complete mental breakdown in March 2022 requiring mental health intervention. I experienced the majority of side effects listed for when you start taking the drug! No mention off the effects when weaning off, as if I knew what I know now, I would never have started taking it!!!

Here we are 13 months later and I can honestly say these past 13 months have been the worse of my life!!!

I see you are taking Lexapro which will help whilst weaning off gabapentin?

I declined the taking of Sertraline as I could not see the point of taking another drug that I might have to wean off later! Sometimes wish I had?

I started with hot and cold, then, tunnel vision, flashing lights (peripheral), loss of appetite, followed by ringing in the ears, noise reduction, amplification, heart palpitations, anxiety, violent and intrusive thoughts and then it really got shitty in my head space!!!

I'm telling you this not to frighten you, but to prepare you for what might happen? And for you to be prepared and to know that you aren't the only one!!! If you start experiencing major changes in yourself go see your doctor and if you have close family and friends near you make them aware that your weaning off prescribed medication and of the possible side effects!!!

IT DOES GET BETTER!!!

The upside of all of this is I now have a much better understanding of mental health and the loss of appetite now has me at 185llb's.

I took Lexapro, it took a bit to adjust to it . But it caused ringing in my ears, so loud that I couldn't hear anything but ringing. I wish you the best and you don't do that... I had to get off of it...
