For anyone suffering a loss

I came across this quote and it just seemed to resonate with me. Not sure exactly how or why. Guess it is food for thought.

“To live in this world you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.”

~ Mary Oliver ~

I have trouble with the 3rd thing. Seems so many things i have loved end up leaving me behind.

Letting go entirely of love just doesn't seem possible to me.

You can still love, but some of the things you love go away. Either by dying or going your separate ways etc...

That's what confounds me about the third part of the Oliver quote: how can we let go of that which we love?

I wonder when she says "when the time comes," does she mean the time of our own death or that of others?

I took it as the thing that you love leaving you. You have to indulge yourself and allow yourself to fully and deeply love something, even though it may go away. You dont have to stop loving it, but you need to accept or at least tolerate it being gone. I guess I think that the joy of deeply loving is supposed to be worth the pain of its loss? Or you need to be able to handle the loss? It at least it seems to acknowledge that loss of a loved one is pretty hard but it happens and it is a normal part of life. Im babbling.

Very good, but sad. I guess, at the end there is sadness for most

Beautiful, yet sad, and so true.👍
