The Harry Potter series. After his parents die, he is raised by a family that doesn't want him.

Jane Eyre. She is taken in by an Aunt that dislikes her.

Flora & Ulysses : The Illuminated Adventures. It's the most upbeat I've named. Flora is one tough little girl.

It. This one's horror, by Stephen King. It's a huge book, about a group of misfit children who band together.

A Child Called It is very chilling. It could be triggering to anyone who has been abused.

Lisa Regan —Josie Quinn series

Angela Marson —Kim Stone series.

But I hope you don’t read them if they upset you.

A Child Called It is very triggering. I read it way back before my mental illness was even diagnosed and it caused me issues. I read the whole 3 book series. It really does give you insight into yourself as a victim of child abuse but it’s very triggering!

My Mother, the Psychopath; Growing up in the shadow of a Monster... By Olivia Rayne.

This is a true story, the child is the Author.

The Mother is NOT a murderer, which is what 1st springs to most people's minds. Check the definition of Psychopath if you're not sure.

It spoke to me because of the similar, although much less harrowing, things my Mother put me through and a Stepfather who stood back because he was overshadowed and felt worthless himself.

It's not a book I would normally choose but I was in Hospital after an operation and as the bookshop was closed (due to Covid) another patient lent it to me as I was desperate for something to read. I continued to read it and finished it when I got home.

Not wishing to give you a spoiler but the fact that the girl, now a woman, found the courage to write a book about her experiences, should hint to you that this is a story of hope and light at the end of the tunnel. I highly recommend it. If you give it a go, I'd love to know what you think.

Take care. xx

My pleasure, I hope it gives you strength. I'm saying that based upon the presumption that something in my answer resonated with you. Apologies if I'm wrong.

On another note the fact that your user name is "Snowdayze" is a massive coincidence as I've just been looking up a poem/piece of writing to post, that I heard years ago and describes how I feel down to the... well... snowflake lol... It's called "Depression is like Snow" Have you read it? x

It's so moving in so many ways!

It's sad yet hopeful, depressing but inspiring, but for me the very best thing is someone has put into beautiful words how I feel most of the time and that truly shows me that NONE of us who feel this way are ever really alone. We need to be brave enough to reach out.

We all just need to let go of any shame and guilt that we feel, about how we feel! For me, that is the hardest thing... not blaming myself!

We have nothing to feel guilty or ashamed of. I know it's harder said than done but that's what I strive for. I want to release myself of all the guilt and shame that others have put upon me simply because they felt the same way but instead of dealing with it themselves, they projected it onto their child.

I get emotional when nice things are said to me. I was a victim of childhood emotional abuse. I saw what McCpurple wrote down as a book title. Sadly I could have written that book.

We cry because we connect in spirit with each other. It's so wonderful.

Thank you for being you.
