I had a series of ECT treatment in. 2008. It was traumatic for my partner and parents but it did work alongside the psychotherapy & development of habits such as meditation. Our local health service no longer offers ECT at all, Probably a cost saving. I did find that my short term memory was affected in terms of having no memory of having been to see a film, recall the actors or which cinema I had been to from the previous year. This was a complete surprise as I’m usually hot on this kind of trivia. Recently I’ve been reading up on ADHD and have just initiated a formal assessment process for this. I do wonder whether they are connected.

effects of ECT
I had ECT and my long term memory is still effected. It is permanent and they don’t tell you that before you get the txs. It didn’t work on me. I am not no-polar just have chronic depressions since age 12. I pray your short term memory returns.
Had a friend who got ECT and had problems with short term memory; that is why I would never try it. It seems to be more common than people realize. My treatment of choice is TMS.
did tms work for you?. I feel so hopeless and scared in my year and a half long depression could morbid with ocd/anxiety
My aunt had ECT years ago and didn't suffer memory lose. I had high functioning anxiety disorder for years and spent a lot of that time in a hyper vigilant state and have some memory issues which I attribute to that. I think the affects are similar to ADHD which my therapist confirmed.
