Had anyone used the Dare app? . I was looking for an app for anxiety, worrying / overthinking. Is it a good app to use ?

Or is there any other app recommendations with either audio or articles . I am not looking for a journal , mood trackers or mediation apps as I have found ones I really like .

Thanks in advance 🐼

Interesting app. It looks like the same strategy as Noom which is for changing your diet (loss or gain). Noom works for a lot of people including myself. I loved spending just 10 min a day on learning about nutrition and the mind. Habit was part of it. Anxiety isn’t my issue but I bet I would get something out of it.

Yes, then I ended up buying the book. I have always been a big fan of exposure therapy but I hated the DARE response book- not simply for being borrowed from other sources but because I felt like the book had far too much filler and not enough explanation of how the idea should work. I felt frustrated trying the different ideas and telling myself "what's the worst that could happen? / bring it all on" actually caused me to have a big panic attack.

Since reading the book I have finally read Dr. Claire Weekes' book on 'self-help for the nerves', which is much more forward and plain in its explanation but still disappointingly vague for what I was hoping for. I plan to read more of her stuff in the future.

I have read a smattering of stuff on radical acceptance and commitment therapy that I liked, but it all sounds the same to me "just suffer and it won't be so bad"... I guess I am missing something.

When I came across the stoic philosophy idea of Amor Fati (roughly, love of fate) and piled it on top of everything else I read I felt like I began to get a good picture of what the dare response book did a poor job of trying to explain. I honestly don't know why it has so many great reviews and still maintain that I despise it, however, I don't think the author is coming from a place where he understands what panic attacks from years worth of trauma ("C-PTSD") actually is or feels like.

I think it's a good idea at a glance but I also think there are a lot more helpful, better iterations out there.

Different strokes for different folks, if the app seems appealing, I don't see any harm in getting someone else's perspective on the idea of what I see as "exposure therapy with glitter thrown on to sell books".

That's fair enough , some approaches work for some and not for others . I think dealing with complexed trauma needs more support than what can be offered in a book . I am glad you found one that is more helpful for you .

Yes I have used the Dare app and even signed up for the advanced version for awhile. I found it very helpful, it was kind of like having my own personal coach when I needed it. I've also found the book and youtube videos very helpful as well as their facebook group. The Dare book and program is influenced by the work of Dr. Weekes whom he credits in his book but for me made it more manageable and accessible.

I use the Dare app and I find it works for me. I listened to it every morning. And if I'm a little nervous I use the 🆘 audios to help me out. Keep me level headed.

I also like the book Unf*** Your Brain by Faith G. Harper PHD, LPC-S, ACS, ACN. She brings science into why you struggle with anxiety, depression, anger, etc. She even explains that everyone borrows strategies from each other psychologists 😂 now there is profanities in the book. So if you're a little sensitive to that. Might not be the best book. But I felt it really helped me.

Sound good glad you found it helpful .Nope swearing doesn't bother me . I actually prefer ones that are a bit more light hearted than ones that feel like your just reading a science paper or something 🐼

Well then you might like Unfu** Your Brain: Using Science to get over anxiety, depression, anger, freak outs, and triggers. It's humorous and I found it to be funny. Especially related to my struggle cause it's easy to say certain things like accept and just go with it but to execute it is completely different.

She brings up different strategies from other psychologists. And is even honest with that by saying Yeah we do that s*** all the time and borrowing other psychologist strategies and work in these types of books. And that made me laugh earlier when I read someone else's comment about the dare book. Cuz it does borrow from Dr. Claire Weekes. But even with the dare book and the app in the app especially Barry admits that he is a fan of Dr. Claire weekes along with another psychologist I think he has on their usually for their webinars and she does right scripts for the dare app I think her name is Michelle Cavanaugh.
