Has anyone tried EMDR Therapy for PTSD? Would like to hear your experiences and how it was in the beginning, did you get better?

I’ve been through the training and seen it used effectively on folks with PTSD. It’sa very emotional and draining experience but what I saw was wildly effective. It’s hard to believe that simple eye movements can rewrite your brain but under the care of a trained therapist this is a very useful tool. I hope you find someone to help.

I did my first session today and I feel so tired, like so so tired. Did it help you?

I was on the other side of it. But yes being exceptionally tired and extremely emotionally overwhelmed is good. Ironically feeling that way means you hit the points you needed to hit. That means you started rewiring. Smile honey you’re on the right path.

Ok that is good to hear. Just doesn’t feel like it, just want to feel okay.

You have to go through it to get past it. Keep pushing on …❤️you are doing the right thing. I know it doesn’t feel good right now but living in the pain isn’t good either. Honestly you went through the worst part with the trauma. You survived something horrible. This is scary. You are much stronger than you think.

Hi! I have tried EMDR as well. It really gets your brain moving, but I often times have issues focusing. I can't wait to start trying again!

I’ve had emdr too and I had what your having too. But it really helped me a lot. The improvements are very subtle but amazing over time and you will definitely notice them. I can only describe them as making living better with a kind of clarity that you’ve never had. Stick with it

How many sessions did you do?

Still having them but I guess maybe 15. When I come to block in my recovery we’ll do some more. It always helps. Illness seems to come in layers that you peel off like an onion ! I think the main issue is pretty well handled but some of the side issues still need work. I hope that makes sense.

I worked with two different therapists who used emdr, one was just an emdr therapist and it wasn't helpful but the other was a trauma specialist who used emdr and it was the best therapy I have done. He spent a lot of time helping me develop coping skills and feeling safe before we did the emdr therapy and I found it very effective. Yes it was emotionally draining but I knew that it was only temporary and it had to get worse, which was a good sign, before it got better, that is the natural process of healing. You have to be willing to shine a light on your dark stuff and go through the pain in order to heal but it is definitely worth it.

I agree totally. My therapist also went thru the necessary preparation before starting my therapy and also helped me cope with therapy after effects.
