I don't know if anyone remembers the Beautiful South song by this name. It touches on the magnetic quality of big bodies of water, to walk by, sit or lounge about next to or in my case wade or swim in. From being very little I remember the strong attractions of water. Whatever the time of year, as children we would paddle in any water 💧 available, be it a stream, muddy canal or even a puddle with or without wellies. Why is it within seconds any child in wellies will have managed to get their feet wet by the water coming over the top of them however shallow that water is ?
When I was really ill with anxiety, swimming in the sea was the only thing that completely removed the feelings of anxiety and nausea etc I was going through. As I started to get better the relief would last for several hours.
Try walking or sitting by water of some sort if you're anxious or depressed. You may find it lifts your spirits just a little and makes you feel less anxious.

I dont know the song, but your post has brought back happy memories of days at the seaside when I was a kid. I love being by water, although I can't swim. Even at my age , I will still go for a paddle if I have the opportunity 😂. I can sit for ages, listening to the sound of the waves, breathing in the sea air. I live near a river and it's my go to place if I'm stressed or upset. Talking of the river- it's a lovely sunny day so I'll be going down there later. I've seen a cormorant in the same place every day this week. Yesterday it was during its wings, doing a sort of dance😁
Thanks for your lovely reply. Great photo too. I got some nice photos of a cormorant in Wales recently on my proper camera.Enjoy your walk.
I'm doing a walk with a friend which starts by crossing a river with water rushing over a Weir. We are then off to lunch at a farm restaurant surrounded by meadows with the animals all around. Will hopefully see some newborn lambs this time of year.
Here is a photo with my pal Honey having a wade in a woodland river. Most dogs love water too
Thanks so much. We had a great time and there were lambs but my camera on my phone is playing up at present. Instead here is a photo from a holiday I had with my daughter in Italy.
The blue sea and beach with parasols in the Cinque Terra region of Italy
Love it. Hopefully you will be able to go again soon. So looking forward to going to the Amalfi coast this summer. This is another of the coast at Cinque Terra

I've been to the Amalfi coast many times, staying in Sorrento. I love it.I was only thinking the other day that I'd love to go back- haven't been since the late 90s.
Oh yes. 'Coppa amaretto' - amaretto ice cream, espresso, chocolate sauce, amaretto liqueur, amaretto biscuits and cream. Not healthy. But it's only once a year🤗
She is, I found her amazing and really loved her but I am not able to see her anymore. I really miss her such alot.Bit of a long story. Message me if you want to hear it. On the cheerful side I do still see Honey and am soon going to have her for the weekend which will be wonderful. First time for a year or two.
I feel the same way. The ocean is the place to be. That's my place of peace.
Beautiful picture. I wish I was there.
It's getting to be the time where I can get back to my favorite ocean for my walks. My mind is set free when I am there. I haven't found another place that is quite as therapeutic.
What a wonderful photo.Have a beautiful relaxing time by the ocean.
We've booked to go to Italy this year. It seems such a long time since we have been to the Mediterranean. The colours are just so stunning. This was taken in the Cinque Terra region of Italy.
Wow, look at those fabulous colors. I hope your trip is fantastic. I know you will bring back lots to show us. This is a beautiful post. I love the sharing of photos.
Lack of mobility prevents me from getting on to a beach, would dearly love a paddle but I make do by listening to sea, running water etc on Headspace and Calm - I find both websites very helpful xx
Water was a big part of my life as a child. These days I can only park, and sit in my car for a few minutes. This was my walk with my Father every summer.
Can you smell the water? Feel the mist cool your face in the summer heat?
What a beautiful photo. It looks such a wonderful area to walk. If you can get to sit by the water you will feel the benefits. Here is a photo of a beautiful water garden I often visit.
Water garden with purple rhodendrons and seats under a canopy covered in wisteria.
"Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, I do like to be beside the sea" etc, etc, guess who's retiring in 10 weeks time, looking for a seaside house!🤔🤗🤗🤗
Hi Adlon.I thought you might like to see the Welsh estuary which my holiday home overlooks. I've been able to fulfill my dream and buy a little Welsh cottage near the mountains and very beautiful rocky coastline with sandy beaches and an offshore island. I go there as much as I can now I've retired. My partner and I hope eventually to live there half the time.
I hope you will be able to fulfill your dream too and get your seaside house.

Yes Kim I am self publishing, a lot of people on this site know about my 'little' novel, now that I am retiring I can afford to self publish, as soon as I said that a couple of publishers came out of the woodwork, a MAJOR true crime novel, a relief to me friends and relatives over the years, lets just say gained a few "grey hairs" because of it over the years! 🕵️♂️☠️☠️😙👍👍
I miss the ocean so much! I grew up about 10 min. away from the shore. Now I live pretty far inland, though very close to a huge lake. It's lovely but just not the same. I even dream of the ocean a lot. Water can definitely be helpful in so many ways.
I used to dream about the sea all the time when I was little and lived in the Midlands. Now as an adult and have a choice I live very close and no longer dream about it much which says something about dreams. I do still occasionally have dreams about it and then it usually includes tropical oceans or the blue Mediterranean. Here is a photo from a wonderful holiday before the terrible times of the Corona virus. My heart goes out to all who have suffered as a result of this and are affected by the horrendous war in the Ukraine.Best wishes to all who read this.

Thanks a million, this photo is so adorable. These are the pouches that live at the water garden I sent a photo of last night.
The lab is obsessed with food and the owners warn you about this. One day I saw him running off with a packet of sandwiches in his mouth and someone chasing after him!!
Your cat sounds so sweet!!
A chocolate lab and a roan spaniel hanging about on the patio waiting for tip bits
I'm starting to thanks. I had a walk by the river but was exhausted. I wasn't expecting this level of fatigue. And the cough is driving me mad !!!I'm just thankful they're the only symptoms .
Sitting or walking by the ocean watching and listening to the waves is the best anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant ever created. I NEED to get back there. 🌻
What a fabulous thread Kim - I have so enjoyed it and all the beautiful photos. I feel like I’ve been on holiday…great to see the Welsh ones, we used to go to W.Wales every year with the children, so many happy holidays xx
