Suffering through major depression brought on by menopause…

Has anyone had their doctor confirm the link between the onset of menopause and a major depressive episode? What treatment was recommended and did it work? Is hormone replacement helpful?

I have been paralyzed by this depression. It began last August and hung on loosely as I struggled to continue working as a nurse in surgery. By early December I had lost the will to fight the daily fight and went on disability. Over a month later my mood has lightened somewhat but I have absolutely no motivation to get things done and I take no pleasure in once favorite activities. I suffer from daily anxiety and am isolating from friends somewhat due to a lack of interest.

HRT is a good option. I am surprised your doctor didn't discuss it with you unless you have some medical reason. I would give that a shot. Feel better.
