i have been on at least 20 medications since 1998/i have all my meds on record that i requested through my main hospital and it had every drug i have ever been on.it was a shocking kist but i wanted to see my drug history and it cost me nothing but 2 phone calls and fill out a form and mailing it back.the only drug that helps me if im up on that razors edge called a panic/anxiety ledge is plain old xanax .5mg 60 tabs per month/good luck to you/DS

I tried a number of different meds without success and wound up doing a psychopharmacological med test from Genesight that used my dna to determine which meds were best for me. I started on one it recommended and it has worked. It helped take the guesswork out of the process.

The med helped but I found that it did not eliminate the anxiety, I had to learn how to change my approach and behavior to it and accept it and no longer fear it. The books and youtube videos by Dr. Claire Weekes and the DARE book and youtube videos are helpful for how to learn to accept it.

Do I have to have a practitioner to help me with this test and interpret the results?

You will need to have it prescribed to you by a doctor, psychiatrist or in my state (I live in the U.S.) even a psych nurse can prescribe it. It's pretty simple to interpret but who ever prescribes your meds and the test can help interpret it.

Did you talk to your medication provider, perhaps they know of a source.

You might contact Genesight and ask if it is available in the UK or if they have a recommendation of a similar test that is.

I am so sorry. The last year was hell for me with my anxiety. Never been through anything like that. My Effexor pooped out after 20 years and I tried at least 5 different meds. Awful to go thrugh. Now on a combination of meds that I hope will finally stabilize me. But I know that it is not just the meds helping. I am physically more active, stopped eating chocolate and sweets, dropped 40lbs and joined an online zoom anxiety support group. The road isn't easy. We have to learn to accept, stop fighting the anxiety and live one day at a time. But believe there is hope because there is....this too shall pass. Best wishes to you. You are ot alone

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It can be frustrating, frightening, snd overwhelming to be seeking help and feel like you’re getting nowhere.

Unfortunately, there are some people who are resistant to medication. The situation can be made more difficult if you’re navigating other health concerns (physical or emotional) as well. However, there are other treatment options. Therapy can be profoundly beneficial. Just like medications, there are many different kinds of therapy (psychoanalytic, CBT, etc.). There are also different techniques (EMDR, etc.). So changing up your therapy regime and trying something new could open new pathways to healing. In addition, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has proven profoundly beneficial for those suffering from medication-resistant depression/anxiety. TMS is not shock therapy and is noninvasive. It gently stimulates the parts of your brain that are typically under active in individuals with severe anxiety and depression. It may be worth speaking with a specialist about the different types of treatment appropriate for you.

You’re not out of options. Perhaps there is benefit to considering non-medication based alternatives to treatment. Hang in there. You’re not alone in this.
