Showers

Hello Everyone,

I’ve been meaning to ask if any of you that take cold showers.

Do you guys start out with full on cold water? Or you start warm water then slowly change it to cold?

What I do is I put it on full cold 🥶 then go in and hold it as much as I can. Which is about 2-3 minutes. Then from there I slowly go back to warm water.

I go in at super cold temperature because I feel like that’s how a panic attack would be mimicked.

I even start breathing deeply without even trying.

One thing i wonder is once your body starts getting used to the cold water I feel like it won’t be as beneficial.

So I only do it about 2 or 3 times a week.

What are your thoughts?

I typically start my shower off pretty warm, almost hot and then slowly move to freezing. It's a nice comfort when you first wakeup, and that "shock" from the cold is quite refreshing for me and makes starting the day a lot easier.

I don’t know ‘bout that, alfreddy7. Ice cold baths were used as treatment for mental illness many moons ago. It was eventually stopped because it was considered cruel and unusual. You are a braver man than I. I’m getting goosebumps thinking of it. But I’ve heard of a lot of people benefiting from cold showers. Maybe the old timers had something after all. 😉

I don’t personally want to take a cold shower even if it’s supposed to have a positive effect. Lol

However, depending on your goals, submerging just your face in a bowl of water with a few ice cubes in it for 30 seconds could do the same thing. Or a cold damp wash cloth. Or a gel ice pack.

Same for me, Dolphin14. A cold shower will never be my go to, it would shock my entire system I think. However, I do like a lukewarm shower on a hot day.

By the way, make sure you stick to the warm ocean currents as you swim about, much more soothing than the cold currents. 🐬

I did it once. Didn't know the water heater was shut off... well I forgot. I had to finish and it was a nightmare. Outdoor shower and no hot water.

Yes, I'm going to be moving soon to the warmer temps 🐬. I don't want frozen flippers

❤️🐬
