Support Group

I want to start a support group where I live in the Sarasota area since there are none here. I looked to go back to therapy and every place I called has a long waiting list. There have to be so many people who need help and none is available for them which is why I want to start this group to help myself and others cope and not feel so alone. My question is how and where do I start? Is there material I can download on the ADAA website to use as a format? I went to a support group a long time ago and I don’t remember how they ran it. Any advice would help!

Thank you

I’m not sure about where to find materials or where to start but I’m interested in being in a support group. Do they have any online through zoom or something? I feel like everything is through zoom these days. I can’t seem to find a support group though😞

I used to go to one that was a peer group and through meetup. My only comment is they can be great but they can be toxic too. I was even in a therapist led one that was toxic. My advice would be to have a professional leading if at all possible. Maybe you could reach out to the university for ideas. If they have an msw program there may be graduate students interested in helping.
