So I haven’t written here in awhile but I’m hoping for some advice or just some supporting words. Today my grandma told me she has stage 3 renal disease. From what I’ve seen it’s not a death sentence by any means but it’s scary to know she has it. It doesn’t help that when she told me she jokingly told me she was dying because of it and it nearly gave me a panic attack. I told her how I wish she wouldn’t have told me about it that way and she apologized not realizing it would upset me. It just scares me. We’re really close and the thought of losing her is a trigger for me. Has anyone else had to deal with a family member getting diagnosed with something scary like this before? Or have any positive words

I had to deal with my Aunt Linda who raised me dieing in the hospital I had to pull the plug on her I was only 23 years old. It was very hard because she was like a second mom to me and she helped take care of me and my son. Somehow I found the strength to carry on through my connection with the lord or higher power.
I’m 71 and was diagnosed with low stage three kidney disease 2 years ago. So far it hasn’t progressed beyond that. I was told by my pcp that it was normal for my age. As long as I watch my potassium, sodium and phosphorus consumption, there’s not much else needed at this stage. I am thinking of going to a specialist soon to make sure I’m receiving the best advice possible. My pcp is a good doctor, but he’s not a specialist. Why settle for silver when I can have gold? I’m sorry you received the news in the way you did. Your grandma will be with you for a very long time to come. Search for information online from reputable sources for kidney disease. It will help you understand the disease and allay your fears. My best to you and your grandmother.
I can’t say I’m too familiar with kidney disease stages but my ex mother in law had it and went to dialysis many times a week for years and then her daughter was tested and was a match and she gave her mom a kidney and both were good and are still good now(I still have some contact with my ex).
