Lower dosage

Hi all! If you’ve been following my journey I am trying to find anxiety meds that work for me. I started prozac 40mg three weeks ago. The nausea and no appetite have been unbearable. My doctor said to give it 2 months. Yesterday I told my doctor I can’t take it so she brought me down to 20mg. Will I notice less side effects? Have others experienced this?

Hello friend, I am sorry for your suffering. I too had side effects similar to yours when I was started on medication but I stuck with it anyway and the side effects went away. Please try to continue taking the medication as you will get better with time. However if you can't bear it at all, don't worry. Your doctor can change to other medications which are more suited for you. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Thank you so much. Do you remember how long it took for side effects to go away? I legit have to lay in bed after taking it for the nausea to pass.

My nausea and headache reduced by around the first month. I remember one night when it was so bad I thought about stopping the medication but when I searched online, I was told it would subside with time and it did.

Of course I’ve spent so much time searching online. Doctor said could be 2 months. Online said 4-6 weeks. I’m just starting week 4 and I lowered the dose. You are giving me hope! I need this nausea to ease up!

I first was prescribed Prozac 10mg at 16 yrs old, and it worked fabulously, so after 6 months of the medication I was able to go on with my life without it. However, I have endured more trauma since, and recently was placed back on it (same dosage, then later upped to 20mg). After just a month of being on the 20mg, I had lost 20 lbs and am now too skinny for my liking. I believe this was due to my lack of appetite, and since my prescription bottle became empty, I have not returned for any more medication.

I too have lost a lot of weight and I am small to being with.

Hi. I don't know the answer to your question, but just wanted you to know I care and hope it makes a huge difference at a lower dose. Hugs. Rach

Hi years ago I was prescribed Prozac and felt so nauseous and poorly that I had to go on another type of medication. The Chemist advised me to ask my GP for another type which worked much better. There are lots of new ones out now that are better so I would advise you to try a different one.

IMO , I think best to start low and go up as your body adjusts to these type of meds.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I also was once on Prozac and gave it 30 days and my body did not like it so my doctor put me on propanol 10mg 3x a day. It has help so much with my anxiety. I'm also on Lamictal 400 mg for my bipolar disorder and that has worked wonders also. I hope you feel better soon and keep your chin up

Thank you so much. I’m really trying to give it time. Everyone says to be patient but it’s so hard when I’m so u comfortable. I hope it gets better. I don’t want to deal with making the decision if I should stop it.

I have been on a low dosage of Prozac in the past and I get a side effect that I am wondering if anyone has experienced. I would like to start it again but am concerned about this side effect. After I am on it for about 2 weeks when my brain starts to go into sleep mode my body jerks like an electric shock feeling. Can anybody relate to this side effect?
