Scary anxiety

Can anyone give me some advise on how to handle this anxiety. Is it even possible without medication. It's so terrifying and debilitating. I've tried breathing techniques and exercise. Does anyone know of anything that actually works?

Changing your diet. If you intake caffeine or a significant amount of sugar, you could definitely be exacerbating your anxiety symptoms. Also getting adequate sleep. For me, medication was a saving grace, but it isn’t 100%. Also having someone you can confide in on the spot when you are feeling anxious because talking about how you feel can help reduce the severity of your symptoms.

Thanks for the tips. I have taken Ativan in the past which helped a great deal. I have recently been given a new Dr so i will have to ask him for a new prescription. Unfortunately I don't have anyone I can talk to which is why I have joined HealtUnlocked. Thanks again for the insight.

For me what cured me of my anxiety was reading a few good CBT books. I would strongly recommend Ken Goodman's break free from anxiety. What kind of anxiety do you have is it health anxiety or GAD or maybe social anxiety? And another thing you have to be very aware of the fact that your anxiety is only temporary let time pass and think of the future when you'll be back to normal it will happen. Not sure what symptoms you're getting but I was getting all the bad ones like dizziness depersonalization weak legs fatigue problems with my hearing and eyes. Terrible tingling in my back and legs. I got over my anxiety in about a month's time but I worked very hard at it and I didn't let it scare me too much cuz I know it's just feelings. I kicked anxiety's ass and I'm proud of it.

Good to hear your back on your feet. I believe what I am experiencing is GAD, excessive worry about small things most of which I have no control over.. When I think about the things I worry about I know that it isn't really a big deal but my brain just can't shut it off.

Hi cbt is brilliant it helps to slow the mind to stop and think. It gives you confidence and help to form a constructive image about what's real and wants over active imagination. Once you tune into your over active imagination (The what if) you can then look at it from the other side and instantly you know that your thought process has been illogical.

That's the problem with me. I know my thoughts are false but my brain won't stop scaring the shit out of me.

I would love to help but I think you need professional help. With me it was stress brought on by so many things given in my posts but right back even to childhood. I am able now to talk about things. I don't cry anymore and face up to things instead of hiding I think that has been my what if not facing things. Every bodies anxiety's are from different events stress triggers. I feel for you I know its stressful. But with me I I confronted them and got medical help I knew I had to for me and the people I love because I knew I was in serious trouble with my health. I have changed my diet and don't blame myself any more for things out of my control. I take the meds and work with my doctor. In the bad days I would call help lines in the middle night anything to get me through the stress.

I know that driving makes me anxious. But even when I'm not driving I get anxious. Been trying to drink green tea hoping the l-theanine will help. Thanks for your response

Yoga, meditation sticking to a schedule for eating and sleeping. Also try to find a good doctor and a good therapist. Someone you are comfortable with who listens to you. Remember there is always someone here 24/7 if you need us.

It is a very terrifying feeling; anxiety. I am Experiencing it in the afternoons. I can’t even make it through my work week anymore. I have taken myself off of caffeine. I eat pretty healthy but my poor stomach definitely affected by the anxiety. The Ativan seems to help. I hope you get some relief. I also have a app called insight timer on my phone. And that’s very helpful.

I feel the same way all the time. Can’t shake it. It’s been over a month and nothing helps me. Looking for new meds - I think that’s the only thing that helps. I feel just scared and anxious all the time

Good luck to you, I am trying to establish small routines every day and sticking with them. Having a regular routine seems to help.

Have someone you can condide in at all times. Someone's who's available, usually someone who understands anxiety and is willing to drop what their doing to help you control it. For me it was a brother. Don't confide in someone who doesn't understand it because it can make it worse. Another is medication. For me I tried the whole anxiety pill that takes weeks to work. It gave me severe anxiety, and instead of trying something else I asked for something that can treat an anxiety attack in puticular, not anxiety. I got prescribed xanax. I managed my anxiety my self but when ever I failed I took a Xanax and poof anxiety gone. Failed means about to have an anxiety attack. You dont want to rely on it too much because you dont get a chance to handle it your self to over come it. I recovered because I constantly got practice to manage it my self. since I stopped having anxiety attacks I forgot how to have one. Yes I know. Forgot. My anxiety was a result of trauma and it took a little over a year since start to end to recover. Im not sure about anxiety caused by other reasons. You'll have no symptoms with Xanax and you can take it for whenever you're going to a high stress environment so you'll feel normal and have no whatsoever anxiety for hours.
