I serve on a nonprofit board. I became weary of the impersonal board meetings and lack of gratitude and interpersonal communication during a year when I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, nerve damage in both hands. I also had an emergency operation on my spine to avoid becoming a quadriplegic. I sent the board a pointed email about their attitudes and requested an improvement.
We’ll see how this goes......

I volunteer in political campaigns. I found a similar attitude. When they reached out to me again I decided to back out of the leadership role in 21 and just volunteer because it really isn’t in my long game to be an activist. They haven’t responded in any way. I believe they see this as a thing that you do, not a place to build relationships. Not being involved just means less people to them. Disappointed but not much I can do except write them off if that is what they want.
I serve in organizations that treat. Their members better. I understand your comment how some treat their volunteers as a commodity instead of valuable contributors, This is a great thing to know for the future
Yep I think it depends on the goals. In this group we really only had one thing in common. Both are in different life stages which means I don’t think they understand I am not being selfish...I only have one life after all!
