My Thoughts Are Racing!

I've always had racing thoughts, but recently they've hit a new point where this fear just sets in and washes over me. I am 26 years old and I've always been an overthinker and daydreamer, but I've never ever felt this before. It first happened about a month ago, and now I can't shut off my thoughts, if I let it go to far this feeling sets in and I'm scared to get to that point so I try my hardest to stop it, and it usually works but im still scared, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I'm freaking out. I CANT STOP OVERTHINKING. Any tips for for overthinking?

So stop trying to stop the panic. That is what is making it worse. Oddly enough with anxiety the best thing to do is steer into it and then realized your thoughts as it's happening. In your case maybe the thought is "oh god I can't stop thinking" over and over. By recognizing the thought that is causing anxiety we can then let go of it because it's just a thought and it won't kill you. The anxiety won't kill you. This is what is know as mindfulness, I would look into it. I hope this helps.

Thanks I needed this. And I will.👍

I agree with endofheartache

Sometimes we have to just let them be. There are times whe we have to fight them in order to complete a certain task which needs our full attention but other times we just let them be and they will go. Believe me if those thoughts did not go away sometimes you will be in a hospital right now which is not a bad thing but just let them be for now and they will pass. I know we do breathing exercises which I have also found to be helping, some take medication which is very good as well but sometimes just let them be, they will pass

Sorry you are going through this, racing thoughts and overthinking can be tough. But it happens to so many especially since we are in COVID, a lot of difficult news, etc. Sometimes you do have to let it run its course. Deep breathing can make a huge difference. You might want to strongly consider talking to a counselor. This will equip you with tools to handle these feelings when they come. A counselor can show you how to be intentional about managing it. You may also need to get to the emotions that you could be struggling with, peel some of the layers of your heart. This may help you manage what is going on because there could be unresolved issues that are causing you to struggle like this. Be gentle with yourself. You are important and seeing a counselor can be a gift you can give to yourself. Also, when this happens, consider taking a long walk, dancing in your living room, calling a friend, cook something special.....do something positive that would be a healthy distraction. It might be good medicine! I wish you well.
