I've been on antidepressants half my life ( I'm 47) I feel like I'm in a good place now...I mostly take them for severe panic attacks. I would like to stop taking them by myself. No doctors or therapy. Has anyone out there gone off their meds by themselves successfully? If so, how? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Well I have never gone cold turkey in getting off meds and wouldn't after hearing some of the horror stories on here! The way to come off is to do it very slowly otherwise you could end up having brain zaps and feel awful for weeks, perhaps months. When I say vey slowly I mean very slowly.
I'm sure others will come in soon with their stories.
Hi Efthimiades,If you are taking these medications on a regular basis, you can not just stop cold turkey. You could put yourself at risk for some very severe withdrawal symptoms and possibly need to be hospitalized.
I have successfully withdrawn from my medication under minimal supervision from my doctor. Please feel free to review my previous posts and learn from my mistakes.
I strongly urge you not to do this without minimal supervision and or advise from your doctor. I struggled with the process, when I did not listen to the advice given.
Please ensure that you also have other methods of dealing with your panic attacks in place before you start the process. You will now be relying entirely on those methods to get you through any attacks.
I wish you all the very best in your journey. Stay strong!
Be Well.
