Cramp/spasm after sobriety

45 yo female. I’ve been drinking too much for several years (too much 3-4 times a week for 5+ years) with a few short phases of sobriety. I quit (for good, I plan) 18 days ago and have been super anxious (health anxiety), tons of tension, tons of googling, etc. I’ve had bouts with health anxiety in the past and it is a very real thing for me—all consuming.

I’ve had several times recently where I take a deep breath and feel something like a pulled muscle/cramp/catch in the right rib/liver area. No other “liver problem” symptoms that I’m aware of. Pain does not last long and isn’t severe. Anyone else have similar experience?

I mentioned in my first post that I’ve been having back pain Went to the chiro yesterday and there was a ton of tightness on the right side of my body all the way from neck to lower back. I go to the dr. on the 28th so will raise there too. Thanks!

congratulations on your 18 days, i know that’s tough!

have you read about symptoms of “alcohol withdrawl?”

your anxiety and tension are common, but should be getting better, not worse, after 18 days.

I havent read anything about the pain on your right side being related, so that might be more severe. i think you should go to the ER and have it checked today, and not wait for your appointment on the 28th.

be sure to tell them that you have recently quit drinking, but were a heavy drinker for many years

Thank you for replying!

How much do you drink on the nights you drink and what do you drink ?

A bottle or bottle and a half of wine would be a good average.

OK , I used to binge drink , then I started having one or two glasses of red wine every night before my evening meal this way I never got drunk never had a hangover and had a drink to look forward to everyday , I suppose I am fortunate in that I can leave it at two glasses could this work for you or is it difficult to limit your alcohol intake
