Hi, Chase,
I understand exactly what it’s like to freak out with Health Anxiety, as I have struggled with this, off and on, for the last few years. So after reading your post and going by my experience with anxiety induced physical symptoms, I feel confident in saying that your tight throat and stomach is mostly, if not all, being caused by your anxiety.
As for the under active thyroid.....this is something that can be treated and your life is most certainly not in danger. But I can certainly understand your fear and anxiety over what you experienced with your anxiety symptoms and then being told that you have a condition that you are not familiar with. But please know that you are going to be ok. And know that you did the right thing getting yourself checked out and if they prescribe medicine for the under active thyroid, it may help ease some of the physical symptoms that you have been experiencing.
In addition, if you haven’t already, I would also like to recommend that you seek out a good counselor that is experienced in working with anxiety. I think this would help you immensely and also help to ease your mind, even if it is just in knowing that you have someone to talk to that can help you better understand your anxiety and how it can manifest into physical symptoms.
In the meantime, if you need someone to talk to that understands what it’s like to go through physical symptoms from anxiety, please don’t hesitate to private message me. Please take care and know that there are others who understand and also sympathize with what you are going through. May God Bless you and keep you strong in all that you do! 🌿🌹🌿❤️🌿🌹🌿
Hyper and hypo thyroid can be treated easily. When I was having these occur very soon I became balanced out and no longer needed any meds for it.
Thanks Starrlight does it necessarily mean i have it if the levels are little low?
As Midnight and Starlight say, underactive thyroid can be easily remedied with a single medication. Mine goes in and out of normal range slightly every time I'm tested but it's no cause for concern unless it's a big departure.
Muscular tension in the throat and stomach muscles are common symptoms of anxiety. Once you overcome your anxiety the symptoms will yield.
Thanks Jeff1943 and yes indeed ive been dealing with throat tightness since the anxiety begin
A similar symptom that I had 25 years ago was the feeling that there was a lump in my throat. I was eventually sent for a barium meal test which could find nothing wrong. This provided the reassurance I needed and I forgot about the lump in the throat. Then later on I realised the lump had gone never to return. Much later a learned that this is a common symptom of anxiety and even has a medical name: Globus Hystericus. Sounds like a Roman gladiator. Many people have reported here with this common symptom of anxiety disorder.
If we stress and obsess about these and other anxiety symptoms our bodies respond by pumping out the fight or flight hormones of cortisol and adrenaline to provide extra energy. But we don't do fight or flight so these fear hormones remain in our system and cause our nervous system to become over sensitised. In this state our nerves cause us to exaggerate every small problem or worry ten fold. Stomach ache must be a tumour. Muscular tension in the chest must be heart disease. A new boss means I'll definitely get the sack.
This causes fear which causes more symptoms causing more fear in a vicious circle that maintains our nerves in their over sensitive state. You can break free from this vicious circle and stem the flow of fear hormones to our nervous system by the Acceptance method. But that's another story.
It means you have hypothyroidism. It is not fatal and is treated with medication. I have it too.
