Hi, I have spent so many years struggling with depression and anxiety, and the first book that popped into my head was "Peace is Every Step" by Thich Nhat Hanh. I have read it a couple of times, and keep it handy to re-read parts now and then. Even though I still struggle daily, I have found this book to be the most helpful to me. I wish you well with your struggles.
I found Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings when I was looking into Compassion Focused Therapy, which is based on key Buddhist ideas- mindfulness and compassion.I have been listening to TNH on YouTube but I’m going to get the book you mentioned.
I think it’s helpful even if one is not in severe distress.
What are your favorite TNH takeaways?
I love and find myself always returning to the concept of "24 brand new hours," that every day we wake up offers us a chance to write our story anew. Also the act of conscious breathing, and "Present Moment, Wonderful Moment." On good days, I can bring these concepts into my mind, and use them to help me get through.
I love that! I use TNH’s Calm Ease meditation on YouTube. It ends with Present Moment, Wonderful Moment. I love how soothing his voice is. I feel peace just hearing him.
I had never thought of listening to him on YouTube...I will have to give it a try. Thank you.
Hello, I am sorry for your health problems, I have suffered from depression/anxiety all my life, when I was younger there was not a lot of help, I went to therapy and take antidepressants. I cannot find my favorite book, it helped me so much, I have been looking thru my collection!!! Another Great help is Dr. Claire Weeks, "Hope & Help for Your Nerves", she has other books also. Dr. David D. Burns "Feeling Good", Depak Chopra, is great, and off course TNH. I joined a Spiritual Group 30 years ago, they taught me to "Live in the Moment", which I find very freeing, keeps my mind at rest and in peace. I practice Hatha Yoga, very good for physical, mental and spiritual restoration. I hope this will be of help to you. Keep on going down your road, another book I like to recommend that helped me a lot, by Dr. Scott Peck "The Road Less Traveled" Amazon has it used/new. I suffer with clinical depression, so have to take antidepressants, not all of us need them, but they can help, talk to your Dr.Sendidng love, energy, peace and big hugs.......
