My view is that the nervous system has a limited ability to deal with stressful situations. After it reaches a certain point it starts to over respond to minor stressors. Stress also increases the usage of many vitamins and minerals , so there could deficiencies that are related to the nervous system not functioning properly.
Certain things/stressors trigger our anxiety. For me, I have OCD so when I feel out of control of my surroundings my anxiety increases.
There are also chemical and hormonal imbalances in most people with anxiety. The imbalances make it harder for us to regulate our emotions and to react to stressful situations.
If you can, try and take notice of what is happening to you when you feel anxious. I know it can be hard because we often can only focus on the panic inside. However, if you can start to figure out what your triggers are then that will help you to understand your anxiety better and, if you're seeing a therapist (which I do recommend), the therapist can help you to react better when those triggers arise.
Hope this helped some.
