Hi I have tried citalopram and sertraline for depression but neither of them worked. The GP now wants me to try an SNRI but I'm too scared because of the side effects and because of how I felt on the other antidepressants I really don't know what to do

Hi. I'm sorry that neither of those worked. Antidepressant are tricky.
Can you give us a little more information on the tablets you've tried, like the dosage you was on, and the length of time on each at the max dosage
If your GP has suggested them then they feel there is a clinical need for medication and if SSRI don't work for you then SNRI is the next step. SSRI don't work for me (I have horrendous side effects and they also trigger psychosis) but found SNRI worked really well for me. No side effects and no withdrawal issues either. Everyone is different. You should always give them 4 to 6 weeks to start working and should be regularly seen by your GP in the early weeks.
