Hi New guy here , I have been taking antidepressants for a few years now, and although I feel they have helped me I'm beginning to suffer from other illnesses like Hi Blood pressure and Angina ,I want to come off the antidepressants but I worry my anxiety will increase and cause additional stress that will aggravate my other symptoms. Any advice?

Hi Roy what ever you do don't stop ant medication with out seeing your doctor! As you've said your medications are working so why change your high blood pressure may be unrelated your anxiety as I sis try and see your doctor and discuss it with them! Also welcome to the group hope we can help 👍
If the antidepressants help to relieve anxiety and depression, then maybe you should stay on them, because anxiety and stress will only worsen your cardiac conditions. Perhaps taking the antidepressants has not relation at all to your cardiac condition. You will probably be prescribed some meds to lower your BP, there are quite a number of choices. Than angina is troubling. Did you have any kind of cardiac stress test, or cardiac tests to determine if your coronary arteries have some blockage? I wish you the best. Take care.
👋, Hi and welcome.
The answer to this question depends on the antidepressants, some have increased blood pressure as a side effect. On the other hand blood pressure may occur naturally as a person ages. The answer will be in your medical history.
Your doctor may change to meds with less side effects or can develop a plan with you to very, very slowly wean you off psych meds using a taper (gradual decrease) approach over months. If you decide to try this and have confidence in your doctor's directions and feel safe to do so, your anxiety should be manageable.
Good luck, whatever you decide 👍
