If you’ve had Serotonin Syndrome you would remember it. Even mild cases are very uncomfortable.

Severe cases take therapies to reduce symptoms and cessation of the agents that were used together to cause it. Mild cases usually resolve stopping the agents that caused it but it still takes a little while to recover.

Hi roxiedawn yes I had and still having side effects. Do you know how long it takes to recover

Serotonin Syndrome if severe needs hospitalization.

Mild cases involve completely stopping the antidepressant or supplements to recover, it’s possible you’d be given a course of cyprophedatine.. depends on how mild and what your doctors protocol was for you to recover.

Hi roxiedawn my doc took me off propranolol and escitalopram and put me on paroxetne and diazepam. Thankyou for your reply

Looks like doc switched from one SSRI to a different one, switched beta blocker to benzo.

If you had serotonin syndrome, doc would have had you do a drug holiday, stopping of all meds (you would have felt better in a matter of 24-48 hours as serotonin is depleted from by cessation of the agents that caused it) that increase serotonin in the brain. Serotonin Syndrome is quite rare, It takes two SSRI, or 1 SSRI and supplements used together like 5htp (for example) to cause excess serotonin in the brain. Rare for one SSRI to cause it, but not unheard of if you were to increase dosage of your 1 SSRI above excess that the brain and the CNS can handle.

In my opinion, doc said not to worry about it because this isn’t what you had, but you could have uncomfortable side effects from the switch of meds, the meds themselves or the combo.

Hope you get this worked out.
