Struggling with self care

Hi, I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m really struggling with doing “normal” self care things and it’s gotten much worse over the last 2 years. I’m recovering from a major depression but self care is still a big problem for me. Showering is a problem for me and I don’t do it often enough and have no idea why...Grocery shopping and eating nutritious food is almost impossible. We eat carry out every night but I forced myself to go grocery shopping yesterday. I’m 80 pounds overweight and had to buy size 16 pants recently... with all that said, I promised myself yesterday that I would embark on a self care journey starting today. Eating nutritious food and no fast food allowed! I will take my vitamins daily, shower everyday and clean up around my house regularly. I’m 49 years old and don’t have set routines for any of this stuff anymore. I need to force myself to change because living like this is not normal. Sorry for the long post but I’m fed up with depression and anxiety ruling my life. I want to be normal..... thanks for listening everyone.

Hi again! This has been quite a popular subject on here lately-not being able to get out of bed and do the things you want to accomplish. It's weird-I have a thing about showering also. I think it's because I hate my bathroom. (.Cannot be changed). I do it every day only because I have to. I work Monday-Friday, so the option of not showering, well-is NOT an option.! Lol As others have said on here, even if you do one or 2 things a day, consider that progress. So many of us are/ have been where you are. We all understand and are here to cheer each other on!! Good luck!! 👍

I hear you! Self-care is hard! Even baseline care (like brushing my teeth). Don't feel embarrassed. Be reassured that you aren't alone in the struggle.

I struggle with the self care duties as well.

Actually, you've inspired me to take a bath, which I've put off for a few days.

Thank you.

The water is running right now..
