I love the logic!

The most unrealistic person in the world is the cynic, not the dreamer. Hope only makes sense when it doesn’t make sense to be hopeful.

I like this idea... it’s so positive and makes me feel not so silly for having dreams and wanting things to work out for the best instead of depression/anxiety screaming that something bad is bound to happen... 🤔 it gives me hope that good can conquer evil. 😊 thanks for posting this wonderfully positive idea or thought!

is it possible to know that something bad is bound to happen while resting in the firm but gentle grasp of hope?

I’m not sure but facing bad head on and not getting overwhelmed by it while keeping hope for the best alive is a rational response.

When I was working frontline health care you would always hope for the best when dealing with very sick people. You always know things could be worse but u still hope for best.

I think if u are expecting bad then you are letting the inner cynic to take over instead of seeing things that may seem bad can also be good... does this make sense? The glass is always half full imo... it’s hard at times to see this but it’s infinitely easier than expecting the glass to break and spill... imo😊

this makes a lot of sense. and it makes sense that a health care worker would be helped by responding this way. it would also be so much more helpful to the person they are caring for. 😊

Despair -the opposite of hope is a sin in Catholicism

the apostle Paul wrote that all have sinned.... to despair is to be human. How is calling despair a sin helpful?

I read it to mean that your faith is weak if you despair because you should trust God

But I have despaired in my time

Please take this lightly... I’m just picking up on language that I have learned is not helpful. You use the word should. Yes, it would be of personal benefit to trust God. You can choose not to, to your detriment. Yet people have a hard time doing it any way. Saying you should do something is a common form of shaming. We often shame ourselves without realizing it. Telling someone their faith is weak is also not helpful.
