Forgive me if I am repeating something someone else wrote but I am wondering if I can hear from those who have recovered from GAD and now lead a productive life. Thanks so much for your contribution.

Aman, I've recovered as much as I probably will for my lifetime.
It was a slow process but I learned every step of the way. Recovery
to me means accepting that my nervous system is more sensitized than
the average person however it is not a life threatening issue.
I started many years ago with medication, therapy and even hospitalization.
Through time, I found other methods/tools to replace my meds and have
learned how to get through symptoms and thoughts by never giving in.
An anxious thought is a lie which then grows into physical sensations and
before long we have turned our power over to an entity. You have the benefit
of this great forum where you will learn from other's experiences as well as not
feel so alone. Remember that this does not have to be a "life sentence" if you
take one step at a time in getting to where you want to be.
Life has no guarantees, there will always be stress around us but it boils down
to how we handle that stress. We may not be able to change the world but we
can change how we react to it. I'm glad you are here with us. xx
