I had a lot of traumatic events happen throughout my childhood. As an adult I lost my autobiographical memory. I know "facts" about my life but have blocked out memories of experiences. I know this is a way of self protection but it sure is frustrating. How many of you that have experienced childhood trauma have autobiographical memory loss?

Are you dealing with the loss of your long-term memory? Let's "talk" about it.
Hi this is our mind protecting itself from painful feeling and emotions and it did it for very good reasons. There does come a time when we need to access these and start to deal with them in order to live a fuller life. If you are unable to find your way yourself then maybe counselling would help unlock them?
This happens to me quite a lot coz of my depression but rarely now due to a lot of work and a lot of pain. I have very few childhood and young adult memories due to this and still am unable to remember lots of things. I don't know if these can be recovered but I have never managed it. Ok I have dealt with issues and can remember from my 30's onwards so maybe you don't need to? What's more important is to learn more about yourself and to gain access to these emotions.
I hope this makes sense and helps you a bit. x
Yes I agree. I have a real hard time feeling emotions. Another way I protect myself. Years of therapy have not helped me in that area but I continue to work on it. Thanks! Glad I'm not alone in this.
Ah sounds very familiar. See if this resonates with you. x

Hey thanks for the link to the article. I even completed the questionnaire and answered "yes" to almost all the questions. Looks like I'm certainly effected by childhood emotional neglect (not a big surprise). I'll research tools to help me. Thanks again! Good karma going your way!
