I've recently had my depression increased after drinking beer for a week. Only because I was on holiday. Has it caused me to feel this way?

Yes, been there, done that. It causes depression and anxiety, increased heart rate, chest pains, stomach irritations, etc. So bad for anxious people. The same people that can be drawn to it.

Yes , alcohol is a depressant.

A good remedy is to drink plenty of water. Also take a Vitamin B Complex tablet, one a day, with food & as early in the day as possible.

Be careful, if using supplements, make sure to read the label and check there is no more than 100% of each vitamin's daily requirement. Valupak is the only brand name I know (in UK). All others I've seen have far too much of each Vitamin in. Most of the 'B' Vitamins are water soluble but not all. So never exceed requirement.

You could also take a Vitamin C tablet daily or preferably a glass of Tropicana orange juice (or eat an orange).

Eat well & never drink on an empty stomach. Make sure last drink of the evening is a glass of water.

Another good tip is to have two alcohol-free days a week to give the body chance to recover. Drinking everyday can harm the liver, brain and other organs.

Alcohol is a known depressant. If you are bipolar, and you were on medication, did you go off medication during your holiday? Also, going on holiday is a change in routine and expectations (rest and fun) that can also add some stress and therefore depression, especially if you didn't want to go back to work.

Alcohol is a depressant. I seem to be okay if I have an occasional glass of wine. More would bring me down too much.

How are you doing now? Sometimes we have a "slip", and it is hard to get back on track. Taking one day at a time, staying in contact with others who understand and love me, exercise, reading the Bible, praying, and just being honest about how I am feeling to myself, God, and others are all ways which help me to get back and stay on track. Hope this helps and please keep posting. Blessings, friend.
