Why am I still having palpitations even after my anxiety subsided?? It’s becoming quite annoying now! I’ve been told everything is normal & it’s due to anxiety but I haven’t had any episodes of panic/anxiety or depression in the past month & a half! I’m on the verge of freaking out!!

Palpitations
Beautifulgirl01, it doesn't take being or feeling anxious or panicky to have palpitations.
Being annoyed and being on the verge of freaking out is enough to keep that adrenaline
on low simmer. Just like a pot of water simmering on the stove, if someone or something
raises the flame even momentarily, the water will start to boil. The same with our
adrenaline. The moment our adrenaline spikes just a little, our heart reacts to that
stimulus. I use meditation and deep breathing to keep my adrenaline in check.
From the minute I wake up in the morning, I start my meditation and deep breathing
to calm the morning anxiety. Getting through a stressful day, I am aware of my breathing.
Staying hydrated, breathing deeply, calming the mind are all a part of my day now.
It's important to stay in touch with your doctor/cardiologist if it gets out of control.
However learning other methods to help in relaxing your mind and body will in turn
reduce the palps as well. xx
I can go weeks without palpitations then i can get them for weeks. Its very frustrating.
Same here! It makes my mind race & try to figure out why smh
Have you thought about taking some supplements?
I am taking supplements but none seem to work for the anxiety symptoms😢 they’re helped by altering my mood and making me feel happy again & less anxious
Do you take stress b complex, Ex-stress,daily stress complex?
I would say, much like anxiety amps up, it also has to climb down. The chemicals in your body are released and it takes time for them to "burn off". Epinephrine and norepinephrine both tell your heart to pump quicker (for fight or flight). So...just a guess...I would imagine these hormones aren't completely gone even if you feel the anxiety has subsided. Stressful events, even if small, can cause the release of it since it's a natural bodily function. If you've had all the tests and all is well, it might be worth trying to practice breathing exercises and mindfulness during palpitations. If your doctor is willing, beta blockers are usually a popular medication to help, but I would try to tackle this without medication first. Betas are great, but they also come with some cons. Above all else, I hope you're able to relax and the palpitations subside.
Thanks for the insights! I was nervous about trying the beta blockers but if it helps I’m definitely willing at this moment because I can feel myself getting fed up.
Absolutely and, agreed, it can be very annoying still dealing with it. The beta blockers (propranolol is usually the choice for anxiety unless you have asthma or other breathing issues) are great for reducing pulse and blood pressure. The cons I mentioned are orthostatic hypotension (blood pressure drops when you stand...takes a few moments to stabilize), ice cold limbs (feet and hands), and depending how you take it (for that moment or on a daily basis), needing to ween off of it as daily use builds up in your system and your BP/pulse can spike if you were to cold turkey off of it.
So far, having used atenolol (I have asthma, so I needed a cardioselective beta...we have beta receptors in many areas of the body, lungs included), my heart rate has dropped from resting in the high 70s to low 80s, to now the mid 60s. Palpitations are rare. It doesn't necessarily beat anxiety as much as reduces some of the physical uncomfortable symptoms. I was pretty nervous as well, but I'm glad I tried it. I've heard propranolol is even better than atenolol, so if you happen to go that route, I hope it takes care of this for you.
I’ve tried propranolol but it seem to have increased the number of palpitations I was getting, made me sluggish, & kinda made me feel depressed. I don’t know if it was because I still was deep off into my mental anxiety and didn’t know how to control it or not. It actually crossed my mind a few days ago since I’m mentally a little better.
May I ask if you are on an antidepressant? My daughter is in similar situation and was just put on a beta blocker?
Your posting name is fantastic! Positive and caring about yourself. Stay on that track.
Go ahead and freak out. You deserve a better life. Clear the air so you can move on.
I have been tapping and breathing for 2 days since I went for my usual weekly talk therapy session. Took various Rx and OTC remedies.
This is such a senseless anxiety disorder. I don't understand it. How can anyone around me understand? They can't either.
