Challenging your own perceptions?

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with everybody.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to challenge or deal with their own perceptions. Especially

Ones of feeling like a burden; or make you think you are a problem to loved ones and you should isolate yourself to spare them?

Yes one way is to ask them if they feel you are a burden or a problem. Don't make assumptions about other peoples feelings and needs. If they want to isolate from you that is up to them, but if you don't want to from them then don't. In other words it's their decision to make and not yours. x

I’m afraid to ask, and that my perception is one of truth. Asking the question even feels like being a burden.

But your right if they didn’t want me around they would have found ways to pull away, or not be around me. So it is their choice and they have so far always stuck by me.

Sounds like you might be stuck in your head.. instead of thinking your a burden.. think what can I do to make myself feel better.. go to counseling, do the activities you enjoy.. once you are in a good mind frame you shouldn't get those thoughts in your head as much as you use to.. trust me you can be your own worst enemy.. your harder on yourself most of the time than your loved ones are on you... because they love you and want you to be happy

I will try, I know I’m certainly way harder on myself than others. I’m trying hard to learn to love myself. It’s a journey.

I used to make excuses, although now I know my limits and people who know me have a good idea on what I can do

Generally speaking, know yourself and look for other activities you can partake in. My Wife knows what I am able to do or knows my weaknesses and I will always try to fulfill any anticipations and expectations I may have. We all need to achieve especially if we are disabled. Consider not what you cannot do, look for things you can do, you will achieve and become able to try other activities as you gain confidence

I know what you mean! I agree with hypercat, asking is good. I tend to have similar perceptions, and I’ve found that if someone really cares about you they would much rather explain why they love you and want you in their life than have you feeling awkward and worried about spending time with them. If they mind you asking every once in a while then they probably don’t care about you very much
