Bored but exhausted

Mostly I’m bored. At 70 excitement rarely rolls around. If it wasn’t for my dog and my PT job, I’m not sure. Not suicidal but often wish biology would just do its thing. Catch 22. Meds make me feel very tired but can’t function at all without them.

Find an activity you like doing and make new friends. Go to church and meet new people. Volunteer, you have a lot to offer others. And if you are not already doing so I would suggest going to a psychologist for guidance. God bless you.

Oh man, do I understand! I’m 66. Me and my life took a dive at 60, and I think I got disoriented...still haven’t figured which way is up. Me and my dog, whose almost 19, basically a warm stuffed animal with a heartbeat.

A heartbeat I can’t bear losing.

And my 3 cats, and my parrot. I had a really exciting life, and suddenly...nothing. I am feeling a little darker maybe because I’m bored PLUS lonely, disappointed and isolated after leading an extremely social out-in-the-world life.

I often think, “okay already. Enough. “

When I was forced to give up my personal care aide job due to my pain issues, I spiraled downward due to extreme loneliness & the loss of my two senior dogs. I admitted myself to a psych hospital for two weeks as I was feeling very suicidal. After my release I found a great therapist & was extremely proactive in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also forced myself to get out of the house as much as possible as I'm a people person & don't do well alone. I checked out a few senior citizen centers & took quite a few classes where I met people & learned new things; almost three years later I'm still going to Tai Chi & go to lunch afterwards with some of my friends. I also got involved in a group on Wed & where anyone can come to play games & eat lunch; I help get things set up & clean up afterwards & have many friends there. I also found a part-time job through an agency called Legacy Link; it's actually a training program funded by the Office for Aging for people over 55. I try to walk a dirt track around a park when the weather is nice. I have fibromyalgia & other painful conditions, but I refuse to give in to them as the thought of staying home alone terrifies me. You have to fight for fun & try new things, & eventually your problems won't be noticed that much. I'll be 66 soon but have had serious pain issues for many years. Good luck.
